violence overran may day night. peaceful marches took a turn for the worst when a reportedly anti-capitalist group joined in. some protesters throwing rocks, flares, and bricks at police. five officers were injured, including one who was hit by a molotov cocktail and one who was bitten. police responded with pepper spray and flash bangs and were eventually able to gain control of the situation. nine people were arrested. police posted this photo to twitter of weapons seized by police, including a wooden stake, pipes, and what appears to be a molotov cocktail made from a beer bottle. we are on the eve of the indiana primary and what is one of the final chances republicans have to force a contested convention. the latest nbc news/"wall street journal" marist poll has donald trump leading ted cruz by 15 points while john kasich has all but written off the hoosier state. trump could slide toward obtaining the 1,237 delegates needed to win the gop nomination on a first ballot. and he raised the stakes on

the bodies of anli camerama been found in a thawing glacier 16 years after they first went missing. elite climber alex lowe and cameraman david bridges went missing in october 1999 after they were buried in an avalanche while climbing at over 26,000 feet. it happened while climbing in tibet as part of a documentary. the pair along with another climber were seeking to become the first americans to ski down the summit. their remains were found last week by two climbers. puerto rico is set to default on debt payments at the end of business today. now, home to over 3.5 million u.s. citizens, puerto rico is about to miss a $422 million payment today. they have a total debt of $70 billion. puerto rico has been plagued by high unemployment and crushing poverty. a bill to help has stalled in congress. another payment is due in july. massive protests by h

of anti-government activists in iraq haveluded an occupation of iraq's parliament building it ended sunday as they peacefully exited the so-called green zone. this came shortly after iraq's prime minister ordered the arrest of demonstrators who sparked a state of emergency. roads to and from baghdad have also been reopened. the iraqi prime minister appeared in public, flanked by heavy security. this is viewed as an encouraging sign to u.s. officials. the protests started after a popular shiite cleric called on supporters to pressure the u.s.-backed government to introduce reforms. there is some fear that the turmoil could hamper the continued fight against isis. on the fifth anniversary of the raid that killed osama bin laden, cia director john brennan spoke exclusively to nbc's chuck todd. he was asked about the 28 pages of the congressional investigation and how that may indicate saudi arabia's potential role in the 9/11 attacks. here's what he had to say. >> i think

town. there are some rumbles of thunder across the mountains of west virginia and they could graze the more than parts of the shenandoah valley and northern may maryland over the next few hours. a soupy fog outside early this morning. we may get near 80 later today. we'll time all that out in a few more minutes. developing this morning, a train derailment in northeast d.c. may affect your drive to work. 14 railcars from the csx train derailed yesterday morning at 9th and rhode island avenue. that derailment sent thousands of gallons of a bleach-like chemical on to the track. hazmat teams immediately responded. now, two other cars also leagued ethanol and calcium chloride which is commonly used to trea

officials say the wat one was . metro plans to open thed stion morning at 5:00 a.m. it was shut down yesterday all day because of the derailment. if you take marc train, though, you should expect major service disruptions on the brunswick line. mta says it's blocked between union station and silver spring because of this derailment. only three trains will run this morning, all will stop at silver spring -- will stop service at silver spring and passengers will have to transfer to metro at either rockville or silver spring station. the iteam has reported on the dangerous material. within hours of the derailment, a searched viewer sent us these pictures of the tanker cars. it say the cars contain the deadly gas. it stopped transporting chlorine through the city after this picture
